Parents As Teachers (PAT)

Increase Your Keiki’s Opportunity for School Success!

With the excitement and joy that comes with a new baby, parents can sometimes feel isolated, apprehensive or frustrated about their abilities or just want to share the excitement of the daily changes in their lives with others who understand. After all, parenting isn't a skill that just comes naturally. It is a process of learning, changing, adapting, and growing just like your newborn!

At Keiki O Ka `Aina Family Learning Centers, we offer a nationally acclaimed parenting program for families of prenatal moms, infants and toddlers called "Parents As Teachers," or PAT.

As a fully accredited PAT Program Site, Keiki O Ka `Aina Family Learning Centers offers a home-based program for families that begins before your keiki is born until a keiki turns three. Through these home visits, we support parents with practical, research-based strategies and activities to support the importance of enhancing school readiness during these critical and formative years of a keiki's life.

These strategies enhance parent child interactions, strengthen ohana relationships and support parents in being their keiki's first and most influential teacher. Literacy is a major focus of PAT, books are used in every visit.

The "Parents as Teachers" Foundational Curriculum is provided through supportive certified PAT parent educator's home visits and screenings in assisting parents in understanding the latest neuroscience research and how it relates to their keiki. Lively monthly group meetings, or "Halawai," make the experience a real pleasure for parents and provides an opportunity for families to meet other families in the program and make connections while gaining valuable cultural and developmental information. Families may begin at any time.
